Painting Style

Realism with a bit of whimsy

"Looking at a sunset, I see brush strokes, techniques, and color palettes.  Known for details, my work is mostly realism, while projecting a bit of nuance with tones and light and shadow. I try to interpret my reference through my eyes, tumbled around in my brain, mixed with life experience and emotion and then pushed out through my hands onto the canvas. I like to call it realism with a bit of nuance"  - JT Moir

The Artist

JT Moir grew up in the Savannah area (Tybee, Savannah, Wilmington Island).  There are many artists in the family, but he especially admired the work of his mother, Amy Riley Doty, and his grandmother, Louise Trent Taylor. JT studied fine arts at Armstrong Atlantic State University.

He works in realism using acrylic and oil, but enjoys adding a bit of nuance to push colors and light and shadow.  While he often paints from regional landscapes, he likes to capture anything in life that tells a story.

JT currently enjoys a full-time career in multi-family property management. He lives in Richmond Hill, Georgia, with his wife and their two children. He enjoys creating and studying art, volunteering in his local church, and participating in the Arts On The Coast, Savannah Arts Association, and Landings Arts Association.
